Imphal, August 09 2015 :
Commending the Government of India for inking a historic peace agreement with NSCN (IM) after 18 years of peace parleys, Manipur Watch Initiative (MWI) has urged the Government not to concede to any communal demand of the Naga outfit that will create a new phase of conflict in the North East region.
In a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, MWI said that people of Manipur are apprehensive about possible disturbance to the territorial integrity of their State as the details of the agreement have not been made public.
Saying that the reported one month's time for developing the details of the agreement is crucial, the memorandum said that people of Manipur have been closely watching every development since the inception of NSCN (IM) in 1988 .
The spirit and elements of history of this one-time southeast Asian country known as Manipur are still alive and kicking, the memorandum said.
However, the political leadership in Delhi seems to be ignorant about it, it added.
The memorandum further observed that the declared vision of NSCN (IM) is an anathema to democratic values and peaceful co-existence among different communities and Union Ministry of Home Affairs must be having piles of reports in this regard.
It added that the people of Manipur across all sections of the society stand against the policies of NSCN (IM) whose medieval mindset of exclusive nationalism goes against all acceptable norms of peaceful co-existence.
The Government of India must study the fact that there are many non-Naga tribal villages at Naga dominated areas, the memorandum observed.
