Workshop on 'Green Education Programme' held

The Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur, organised a 1-day consultation workshop on 'Green Education Programme at Schools' underthe NationFirst@75 Campaign today at the Main Conference Hall of the Directorate in Porompat.
The workshop was graced by dignitaries, including Dr T Brajakumar Singh, Director, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change; Loitongbam Bijeta Devi, Assistant Programme Officer, RTE, Samagra Shiksha, Manipur; Dr W Roshan Singh, Member Secretary, Manipur Pollution Control Board; and senior journalist Rajesh Salam.
Addressing the gathering, Dr T Brajakumar highlighted the urgent need to create awareness about environmental changes and their impact on all living and non-living beings.
He stressed that conserving natural resources and protecting the environment is crucial for survival on earth.
The Directorate, he said, is focusing on school education to instil environmental awareness in the younger generation, who will play a key role in mobilizing activities for environmental protection.
Dr Brajakumar further informed that Manipur has over 4,000 schools (including Government aided and private) and as part of this initiative, the Directorate inaugurated 75 newly established Eco-Clubs at schools today under the Nation First@75 Campaign.
"Colleges and universities across the State have also started collaborating with the Department to promote environmental protection', he added.
An interaction session was also held in the evening session of the workshop.
