International Day for Biological Diversity celebrated

The International Day for Biological Diversity was celebrated on the theme "Be Part Of The Plan" at Thoubal Forest Division Office complex today.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Thoubal Forest Division, Dr L Jeeceelee; Managing Trustee of People For Animal (PFA) Manipur Lourembam Bishwajit and Range Officer Kakching Laishram Dinesh Singh graced as the presidium members of the celebration which was organised by Thoubal Forest Division.
In line with the celebration, a plantation drive was held at the Thoubal Forest Division office complex led by Dr L Jeeceelee.
As a part of the celebration, the volunteers of PFA Manipur sensitized the attendees about snakes by displaying snakes rescued by the team of PFA from different places across the State.
Later, the rescued snakes were set free in the wild under the Reserved Forest Kakching in the presence of DFO Thoubal and Range Officers (ROs) of Thoubal and Kakching.
It may be noted that the winners of spot painting competition of Class IX and X students held on May 18 last in line with the celebration of the International Day for Biological Diversity were presented cash prizes and certificates in today's event.
Artina Chingtham of Khongjom Standard English School secured the first position while students of Ruda Academy Thoubal namely Ningombam Nidhibha Devi and Laishram Srinivash secured the second and third positions respectively.
Today's celebration was also attended by RO Headquarters Ningthoujam Deepa and RO Thoubal Dineshchandra Salam along with other staff members.
Jiribam
International Day for Biological Diversity was also celebrated at Uchathol Ningshing Khun in Jiribam district by conducting a plantation programme organised jointly by Jiribam Forest Division and Pari Puri Athouba Ningsing Lup Jiribam.
Speaking at the occasion, DFO Jiribam Elangbam Nirmala Chanu while underscoring the need to make collective efforts made to preserve and maintain the biological diversity appealed to all to celebrate the day on a larger scale in the coming years.
