LYSMT distributes looms to weavers in Lamshang Constituency

Imphal, July 20 2026: As many as 111 looms were distributed to weavers from villages under Lamshang Assembly Constituency during a programme sponsored by the Laishram Yaima Singh Memorial Trust (LYSMT) at Luker Maning Leikai today.

The beneficiaries included weavers from Luker, Maklang, Sangaithel, Leitong, Karong, Awang Khunou, Salam, Kachikhul, Tharoijam, Haorang Sabal and several other villages.

Speaking as the chief guest, Lamshang AC MLA Sorokhaibam Rajen said the BJP-led Government has been implementing various developmental and welfare programmes across the State.

He noted that looms had also been distributed to weavers in the past through the Handloom and Textiles Department to strengthen the traditional weaving sector.

The MLA lauded Laishram Yaima Singh Memorial Trust president Laishram Nabakumar for his dedication towards improving the livelihood of weavers, describing the distribution of looms as a commendable initiative to enhance their income.

Rajen further said efforts are underway to repair and improve roads and connectivity in the constituency and assured that more development works would be initiated in the near future.

He also stated that the Government would soon extend financial assistance for the reconstruction of houses damaged in last year's hailstorm.

Referring to various welfare schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said special emphasis has been laid on the welfare and empowerment of women.

Explaining the objective of the programme, Laishram Yaima said the looms were distributed in memory of his late father, Yaima, to help improve the livelihood and income of weavers in Luker and surrounding villages.

He also said the trust has been providing free coaching classes to students in the area to help them succeed in their academic pursuits.

Expressing concern over the declining work culture in the region, Yaima urged people to revive agriculture and increase cultivation of crops and vegetables, recalling that the area was once known for abundant agricultural production throughout the year.

Reviving farming, he said, would improve the economic condition of families and strengthen self-reliance.

Among those present at the programme were General Manager of DIC Imphal West A Loken Singh, Managing Director of MHHDC Ltd E Jiten Singh, Officer-in-Charge of the Internal Task Force (Mining), Directorate of Trade and Commerce, Th Phulchand Singh, social activist Dr Kiran Yendrembam, and Deputy Director of the Manipur Handloom and Textiles Department Jugeshwori.
