Imphal, July 20: Water from Kongba river today spilled over at Kiyangei area flooding parts of low lying places even as other major rivers in the State are flowing above the warning level following incessant rainfall during the past few days.

Flood Wing officials of IFCD swung into action on hearing news about Kongba river spilling over at Kiyangei and prevented from getting out of control by making dykes along the river embankment, information received from Flood Control Room of the Department said.

Imphal river is also reportedly flowing above 786.25 m as against its warning level of 785.9 m by this afternoon.

At Lilong area, Imphal river is flowing just below 3 ft from its highest flood level, according to the source.

Flood Control officials have also been alerted with increase in the volume of water in Iril river which is also flowing above the warning level.

The warning level of the river is said to be 786.9 m and by this afternoon, it was flowing above 786.32 m, the source said.

On the other hand, the source further informed, Nambul river is presently flowing above its flood level of 782.0 m.As for Thoubal river, the situation is not so alarming as of now as the river is still flowing below warning level.

But all necessary precautionary measures have been taken to prevent any untoward incident, the source added.

The rainfall recorded in some of the flood-prone areas in the State today are Kangpokpi- 42 mm, Saikul- 26.5 mm and Litan- 12 mm.

It may also be noted here that there are 46 vulnerable points along the course of Imphal river and its tributaries.

These include 14 along Iril, 16 along Nambul, 3 each along Kongba and Wangjing, two along Khuga, 5 along Thoubal and four each along Sekmai and Manipur river.
