Thoubal, April 13 2025:
A mass protest rally opposing the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 was organised by Jamiatul Ulama Hedayatul Basar in collaboration with local clubs of Hayellabuk on Sunday.
The rally commenced from Hayellabuk Idgah and culminated at Hayellabuk playground with protestors holding placards and chanting slogans such as 'We oppose Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025'; 'Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 cannot be implemented'; 'Withdraw Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025'; 'Down, down BJP'; 'Don't look down on minority'; 'No grabbing of ancestral Waqf land', 'We will die for Islam', etc.
Speaking to media persons, Jamiatul Ulama Hedayatul Basar, Hayellabuk member Mufti Afzal pointed out that though the NDA government at the centre has been declaring that the Waqf Act was amended for the welfare of Muslims, the unpopular black law should be repealed immediately as the community will never accept it.
Alleging that the Act is an attempt by the government to take control of Waqf land, which cannot be sold or bought, he claimed that if the government really cares about Muslim then there was no need for amendment as it could have removed the present members of the Waqf boards who are appointed by the government under the Waqf Act, 1995 and ensured that the benefits reach the deserving ones.
