Imphal, July 09:
Terming it as unreasonable, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has asked the JAC Against the Rejection of Form Fill-Up Students of the Matric Old Course Examination, 2008 to call off its proposed indefinite State wide general strike in the interest of the student community.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection at its Keishampat office this afternoon, secretary general of DESAM Y Ratankumar said that after a thorough investigation by DESAM, it has been known that out of more than 10,000 students who have applied for appearing in the Old Course examination, 350 of them have been rejected on the ground of not fulfilling the laid down norms of the Board.
So the decision of the JAC formed by these rejected students to call general strike which may affect the academic career of the whole student community is not right and unreasonable, he contended.
Since calling of the general strike is unreasonable, DESAM has put restriction on the JAC and along with identification of its functionaries a joint discussion session held be held at the office of DESAM, Ratan-kumar said, while appealing to the transporters to carry on their normal service.
