Imphal, October 02 2024: Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi Mahesh Chaudhari has asked the SDOs of Kangpokpi, T Waichong, Champhai, Saitu Gamphazol, Kangchup Geljang, Bungte Chiru, Saikul, Island and Lhungtin sub-divisions to furnish information/documents in prescribed format regarding number of villages, both recognised and unrecognised with the number of households since 1946 .

As decided in the first meeting of the enquiry committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly constituted to enquire into the influx of illegal immigrants and unnatural growth of new villages in the State held on August 28, 2024, the Additional Secretary, Manipur Legislative Assembly wrote a letter on August 30, 2024 to the Commissioner (TA & Hills) to furnish decade-wise list of villages, both recognised and unrecognised, with the number of households in each village since 1946 by September 10, 2024 .

Subsequently, Deputy Secretary (TA & Hills) Dr RA Ransing wrote a letter to Deputy Commissioners on September 13, 2024 seeking information sought by the State Assembly's enquiry committee.
