Sadar Hills, August 28 2016: The 48 hrs general strike imposed along Imphal-Dimapur road on National Highway 2 within Senapati district ended this midnight without any report of untoward incident on the concluding day today.

The general strike was imposed by All Senapati District Candidates Parents' Body of Manipur Police Constable 2013 Batch from August 26 midnight and endorsed by Thadou Students' Association-GHQs along the highway in Sadar Hills.

The last day of the general strike in Sadar Hills and Senapati as usual paralysed normal life and traffic flow while all business establishments were also closed completely again in Senapati DHQs.

Volunteers were seen along the highways at different locations in Senapati and Sadar Hills.

However, emergency services as usual and DIET appearing candidates were exempted from the purview of the strike today.

48 hours general strike ends

Around 15/20 vehicles including empty and few loaded trucks were seen stranded at Hengbung taxation check post till evening while no untoward incident like damaging vehicles has been reported till the time of filing this report from both Sadar Hills and Senapati district.

Disappointed and enraged parents/guardians of Senapati expressed their discontentment against the decision of the State Government to cancel the DPC held earlier in 2013 and warned that if the cancellation decision is not revoked extreme steps like closing down Government offices and barring entry of Government vehicles in Senapati will be taken up.

Apao, convener of the All Senapati District Candidates Parents Body of Manipur Police Constable 2013 Batch said that on April 25 the JAC of written test successful candidates and representatives of Senapati district met the Chief Minister in the presence of Dy Chief Minister and Addl Secretary and the Chief Minister assured to conduct the viva voce for Thoubal and Imphal East district during May and to declare the final result within first/second week of June.

He also alleged that during the meeting, the candidates appealed to the Chief Minister not to conduct another recruitment before the pending issue is resolved.

To this the Chief Minister assured that the fresh recruitment process will not disrupt the pending issue.

Since the assurance of the Chief Minister was not translated into action, the candidates once again met him on June 22 in the presence of the Dy CM and lodged a strong complaint.

Following this the Chief Minister gave another appointment on July 4.Apao continued that the JAC met the Chief Minister for the third time in the presence of the Dy CM and three other Cabinet Ministers during which the Chief Minister cited a technical error and assured to declare the final result on or before August 15 .

However, ever since the third meeting the State Government neither declared the result nor gave another appointment to the JAC and ultimately cancelled the DPC, he added.

How come the State Government detected the irregularities and foul play after three years, asked Apao.

The explanation of the Dy CM that there were irregularities in the DPC cannot be accepted, he said and set August 30 as the dealine for the Government to revoke the cancellation order.

The parents' body of Senapati expressed sincere gratitude to the public and other civil bodies particularly Thadou Students' Association, GHQs for endorsing the strike.
