Imphal, October 02 2026:
The Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) has questioned the motive behind the Government's decision to host the Sangai Festival this year.
In a statement, MAYOL said that tens of thousands of people are still languishing in relief camps, while dozens remain missing.
Saying that the future of thousands of youths also remains uncertain due to the ongoing crisis, it questioned whether holding the Sangai Festival would be rational under such circumstances.
People would support all initiatives taken up by the Government to restore peace and promote public welfare, MAYOL said, adding that Government policies and programmes that ignore the suffering of the people, however, would not receive public support.
The Government can host many more Sangai Festivals in the future, but any festival held against the interests of the people will never succeed.
Expressing its opposition to the holding of the Sangai Festival, MAYOL added that it supports the boycott of the festival by various organisations.
It urged the Government to understand the sentiment of the people and work accordingly.
MAYOL also said that several political leaders engaging in electoral politics in view of the upcoming State Assembly elections instead of working to resolve the crisis is unfortunate.
