Imphal, October 02 2026:
The Naga Youths Senapati (NYS) has condemned the reported incidents of selectively stopping and questioning passengers travelling from Senapati towards Imphal at Kangpokpi, Motbung and Gamgiphai.
In a statement, NYS claimed that the passengers were questioned whether any Liangmai and Tangkhul Naga persons were travelling in the vehicles.
Such ethnic based targeting, harassment or obstruc- tion of civilians on National Highways is unacceptable and must not be allowed to continue, it said.
NYS appealed to Chief Minister Yumnam Khem-chand, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam and SPs of all districts to immediately verify the reported incidents and ensure adequate safe passage for every civilian travelling on National Highway 202 and other highways in Manipur.
NYS emphasised that its concern is not against any community, but against any form of intimidation, discrimination or unlawful obstruction of innocent civilians.
National Highways belong to every citizen, NYS said and added that it will remain vigilant, peaceful, united, Constitutionally guided and will pursue democratic and legal measures to protect the rights of Naga citizens.
