Thoubal, October 02 2026:
All India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba, today, accused the BJP-led Government in the Centre of plunging Manipur into a deep crisis, and asserted that only a Congress Government will be able to resolve it.
A small and peaceful State, Manipur has been plunged into a communal conflict, and is suffering for over 3 years due to inept failure of the Central Government, Lamba said.
The All India Mahila Congress president was speaking at a conference held on the theme "Women Empowerment in Politics" at Congress Bhavan, Wangbal, Thoubal district.
Former Chief Minister and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president, Okram Ibobi Singh, CLP leader MLA K Meghachandra Singh, MLA Th Lokeshwor Singh, MLA Surjakumar, and Thoubal District Mahila Congress Committee president L Ngambi Devi and many other party leaders were present.
Speaking to the gathering, Lamba underscored the importance of women empowerment in politics.
Congress is a party that has worked and is continuing to work towards empowering women in politics in India, she said.
While the present Government in the Centre is creating "division and breaking" India apart, the Congress, she said, is striving to build a united India where its women are empowered.
The Congress wants to build a united India where everyone is treated equally, she said, asserting that the party led by Rahul Gandhi will defeat Modi-led BJP in the elections and form the next Government in the Centre.
She further asserted that only Congress can bring peace in Manipur.
Speaking at the conference, MPCC president Okram Ibobi expressed satisfaction that large numbers of women were showing interests and attending the political conferences, which are being organised at different places.
Stressing the importance of participation of women in politics, Ibobi said women have a large role to play in bringing peace to Manipur.
The conference was organised by the Thoubal District Mahila Congress Committee and Khangabok Block Mahila Congress Committee.
Women from five Constituencies in Thoubal district attended the conference.
