Register every birth and death, appeals Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths

Chief Registrar of Births & Deaths of the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur has urged the people of the State of Manipur to ensure registration of every birth and death.
A leaflet issued by the Directorate has highlighted the importance of birth registration which include providing first legal identity proofs like birth certificate, Aadhaar card, ration card, voter card, employment card, marriage registration and various benefits under Social Welfare & Health Department.
It further helps in providing conclusive proof of age to help protect each child from any kind of violence, abuses and exploitation like cases of early marriage and child labour.
Additionally, it helps in securing inheritance of property rights for women within the families.
Helping to protect migrants, refugee children, trafficking and other illegal adoption cases are also important benefits of birth registration mentioned in the leaflet.
The importance of registering still births and death registration will provide the main sources of accurate information on mortality rate while the causes of deaths will help the Government in proper health planning.
Things like death registration will serve as a legal record required for any kind of settlement of inheritance, insurance claims and benefit schemes under various departments.
In valley districts, registration for institutional births and deaths in public health facility can be done at the respective place of occurrence of the event.
In case of births and deaths at home/private hospitals/in transit for urban municipality areas, registration can be done at the concerned registration units under MAHUD.
For births and deaths at home/private hospitals/in transit for rural Nagar Panchayat areas, registration can be done at the concerned registration units under RD&PR.
Likewise for births and deaths at Hill District headquarters, one can register at the office of the Medical Superintendent of District Hospital irrespective of the place of occurrence of the event.
In case of births and deaths beyond Hill District headquarters, registration can be done at the office of the MO in-charge of the concerned CHC/PHC.
The Directorate of Health Services, Manipur has urged the citizens of the State to avail these facilities.
