RIMS celebrates National Public Health Dentistry Day, Genetic Lab inaugurated

Joining the rest of the country, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal celebrated National Public Health Dentistry Day on the theme, "Utilizing Behavioural Science To Promote Oral Health" at its Jubilee Hall today.
According to a release issued by RIMS Imphal, the observance organised by the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Dental College, RIMS, Imphal was graced by Prof (Dr) Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal; Dr L Swasticharan, Additional DDG and Director (EMR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal; Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam, Dean (Academics), RIMS, Imphal and Prof B Praveen Reddy, Principal, Dental College, RIMS, Imphal as presidium members.

Speaking on occasion, Prof Atul Goel highlighted the importance of good oral health and emphasized on the role of the mouth in maintaining the body's overall well-being.
He also elaborated on preventive knowledge of diseases with and without medicines, and advised the doctors to teach their patients on how to stay healthy.
Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma appreciated Prof Atul Goel and Dr L Swasticharan for gracing the function and sharing their valuable insight on oral health.
Stating that RIMS has one of the best performing dental colleges in the country, he asserted that two Senior Residents for each of the nine departments will likely be added by next year.
"In the near future, as a prerequisite requirement, Senior Residency will also be added for becoming a faculty in the institute", he added.
The programme was also attended by RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Admn), RIMS, Imphal; Sairem Sarat Singh, CAO/FA, RIMS, Imphal; Principal, College of Nursing, RIMS, Imphal; HODs, Chief Nursing Officer i/c, faculties, nursing officials, students and staff of RIMS, Imphal.
Meanwhile, Prof Atul Goel inaugurated a Genetic Lab for the Department of Anatomy, RIMS, Imphal in the presence of Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma; Dr L Swasticharan; and Prof N Sanjib Singh.
At the inaugural function, Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma stated that the Genetic Lab would be able to conduct cytogenetic analysis from samples collected from patients suspected with chromosomal anomalies.
Besides, Prof Atul Goel also inaugurated an ENT Workstation and a New Tobacco Cessation Centre in RIMS, Imphal.
