Bharat Nirman campaign at Tamenglong concludes

Imphal, September 13 2013 : The 3 day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign was concluded with a series of public interaction and entertainment sessions at the Town Baptist Church (TBC) Hall at Tamenglong district headquarters this afternoon.

The campaign was organized by Press Information Bureau, Government of India, Imphal in association with its sister offices in the state and district administration of Tamenglong.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Autonomous District Council (ADC), Tamenglong, RK Ragaisin and District Immunization Officer/Family Welfare and Member Secretary District Health Mission Society of Tamenglong Dr Namjupou Panmei were the chief guest and functional president of the valedictory function respectively.

Rev Namsadai of TBC, Tamenglong also attended the valedictory function as guest of honour.

Speaking at the occasion, CEO of ADC, Tamenglong RK Ragaisin said that this is a very important gathering to share information on various development schemes.

Encouraging the students, he also asked interesting questions and gave cash incentives to students as a token of appreciation.

Dr Namjupou Panmei and Rev Namsadai also spoke on the occasion.

Media and Communication Officer of PIB, Imphal, Premlata Loitam gave the vote thanks.

Later the dignitaries also distributed prizes and gifts to those who opened stalls at the venue.

Around 17 Government departments and agencies' opened stalls during the three days programme.

Students of Don Bosco School, Tamenglong staged a public awareness rally in connection with the valedictory session of the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign.

Songs and Drama Division, Imphal also performed theme plays during the campaign.

A total of 266 patients including 142 females and 77 children attended the free health camp organised during the campaign.

Besides, 21 other patients also attended the investigation procedures.

Earlier, speaking as the resource person of a technical session, Midday Meal (MDM) in charge Champoudai Dangmei of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Tamenglong today said altogether 93,062 students have benefited under Midday Meal scheme in Tamenglong during the year 2012-13 .

The education department has utilized as many as 7877.66 quintals of rice for midday meal scheme in the given period.

FOOD SECURITY BILL: Tamenglong authority plans to cover 21,281 beneficiaries out of the State's targeted beneficiaries of 23,78,000 once the National Food Security Bill (NFSB) is implemented in the State.

Imphal based Senior journalist Sobhapati Samom informed this while quoting the official figures available in the State at the concluding session of the 3 day Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign here at the Tamenglong town this afternoon.

Manipur with a population of 27 lakhs, has 1,02,400 Below Poverty Line families, 3,75,900 Above Poverty Line and 63,600 Antyodaya Anna Yojana beneficiary families as per 2011 census.

As per the various section of the NFSB, each beneficiary in the State are entitled to get 5 kilograms of food grains per month at the rate of Rs 3 per kilogram for rice and Rs 2 per kilogram of wheat and Rs 1 per kilogram of millet/coarse grains, Sobhapati said.

NFSB plans to address the problems of hunger and malnutrition in the country.

Besides all the Congress ruled States including Manipur will be implementing the Bill at the earliest.

The journalist further informed the central authority's plans to implement the NFSB which aims to provide food grains every month to the nation's two-third population at highly subsidized rates within 180 days after it was launched by President Pranab Mukherjee on July 5 .

Sarva Siksha Abhiyan: A total 340 Government and Government aided schools have been covered under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme in Tamenglong district.

So far 22,105 students have either directly or indirectly benefited through the scheme, according to District Coordinator (Planning) KC Paul OF SSA, Tamenglong.

"Free text books and Uniforms have been provided to children enrolled in primary and upper primary Government schools", KC Paul said.
