Imphal, November 12 2024: Accusing Chief Minister N Biren Singh of only talking big and staging drama in Imphal, the Emagi Meira has served one week ultimatum to the State Government to make their position clear to the people.

Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, Emagi Meira convenor Thokchom Sujata said that they, the mothers, may take up a strong resolution against the Government if the demand is not entertained.

She said that Kuki militants have been unleashing a fresh spate of violence against the Meeteis since the last few days by killing innocent people and abducting even an elderly person and children.

Continuing that Kuki militants have killed one woman farmer at Saiton and another two civilians in Jiribam in their fresh aggression, she said and accused the State Government of treating the innocent civilians like sacrificial lambs.

Does the Government see the people like some sort of insects, Sujata asked.

There is a group of legislators who fly to New Delhi whenever the violence escalates, she said and asked what they have been doing all these times.

Now is not the time to do petty politics for power sake, Sujata said.

Saying that people were compelled to defend their villages as the Government didn't do their job, she asked if the State Government is active only in Imphal.

The Meetei legislators have not been doing anything worthwhile during the course of unrest as their families are not harmed, Sujata charged and urged the Government to make their position clear within one week.

The Chief Minister has only been talking big when even a internally displaced person has committed suicide, she said and urged N Biren to stop staging drama in Imphal and make his presence felt.

The Ministers who are on the side of the Chief Minister should stop being obsessed with only clinging to power and put in sincere efforts to protect the lives and properties of the people, she said.

She also asked if the Government is oblivious of the misconduct of the Central forces.

It would be better for the Central forces to leave Manipur if they could not ensure the safety of the people, Sujata added.

Why were innocent people including two children allowed to be abducted by Kuki militants, she asked.

On price hike, Sujata cautioned wholesalers and shopkeepers to stop exploiting the unrest in Manipur to earn easy money.
