Protests continue over arrest of Arambai Tenggol members

Bishnupur/Thoubal, June 09 2025: Following the arrest of Arambai Tenggol, Fighting Commander Asem Kanan and other four members of the group by the CBI, the widespread protests that erupted across the State have also impacted the life of the people during the second day of the protest.

During the second day of the protest, the AT volunteers at Nambol Thongkhong under Nambol Police Station obstructed vehicular movements along the Tidim road by burning tyres.

Confrontation between the protesters and police personnel intensified when the protesters tried to block the movement of security personnel, however the crowd was controlled by the security personnel using tear gas shells, mock bombs and several live rounds.

The SP of Bishnupur Police, Additional SP along with other top officials of the Bishnupur Police and Assam Rifles later took stock of the situation.

Meanwhile, in support of the general strike called by the Arambai Tenggol over the arrest of its Fighting Commander, Asem Kanan and other four members of the group, locals of Keinou along with Arambai Tenggol volunteers staged protest demonstrations by blocking the roads.

The Arambai members and womenfolk of Keinou demanded for immediate release of Asem Kanan without any condition and also called for the formation of a new Government.

Similar protests was also held at Phougakchao Ikhai, Terakhongshangbi, Tronglaobi, Moirang Lamkhai, Moirang Keithel, Ngangkhalawai, Phubala Bishnupur, etc by the Meira Paibis of the areas and volunteers of Arambai Tenggol.

The protesters were seen blocking roads from early morning today using mounds of earth, burning tyres, and various objects.

one protester named Keithellakpam Kegesana said that since the eruption of the violence in the State on May 3, 2023, the volunteers of Arambai Tenggol have been protecting and defending the motherland.

Not only this, the Arambai Tenggol volunteers have also been rendering humanitarian service by assisting the people during the devastating flood that have triggered the State.

The arrest of members of such an organisation that has always been rendering service for the welfare of the people is condemned at the strongest term by the mothers of State, said Kegesana.

She therefore appealed to the authorities concerned for immediate release of Asem Kanan without any condition.

In Thoubal district, demanding unconditional release of Arambai Tenggol members, who were arrested by the CBI on June 8, the womenfolk of Thoubal Khunou Mahila Mandal staged a protest demonstration today at Thoubal Khunou by shouting slogans.

Speaking at the sideline of the protest, a women protester stated that unless the arrested Arambai Tenggol member is released by the authorities, the womenfolk of Thoubal Khunou Mahila Mandal will continue to support the agitation of the Arambai Tenggol.

At Yairipok, confrontation between the security personnel and protesters erupted when a team of Yairipok Police with BSF personnel tried to remove the mounds of earth that were placed along the road stretch of Yaripok using JCB.

To disperse the crowd the security personnel fired several rounds of rubber bullets, tear gas shells, mock bombs and live rounds.

There were no reports of any unfortunate incident.
