Protesters storm Yairipok PS, demand release of arrested AT members within 24 hours

Demanding unconditional release of Arambai Tenngol General Headquarter, Army-in-chief, Asem Kanan and other 4 members of the group, locals of Yairipok stormed Yairipok police station today.
In support of the 10 days general strike called by the Arambai Tenggol over the arrest of AT members, many locals from various localities of Yairipok area starting from early morning came out in large number and obstructed vehicular movements along the Yairipok-Thoubal stretch, Yairipok-Kasom Khullen road and other roads by dumping earth using JCB and Tata Dipper.
However, essential services like electricity, water supply, medical care and religious ceremonies were exempted from the purview of the blockade.
Later, a meeting was convened in the evening at Yairipok traffic island calling for immediate release of Asem Kanan and other four members of Arambai Tenggol without any condition within 24 hours.
Speaking in this connection, All Yairipok Meira Paibi Lup secretary, Matouleibi Maibam said that the arrest of youths who had come out to protect the motherland is condemned in the strongest terms.
Demanding unconditional release of the arrested AT members within 24 hrs, Matouleibi said that if the authority fails to release them within the stipulated time, the mothers of Manipur along with the people will be forced to launch more stringent forms of agitation.
She continued that the MLAs must form a popular Government by June 10, and also called for the transfer of IPS Gourav Dogra from Manipur.
After the meeting, the protesters stormed Y airipok police station urging the police to arrest them too.
However, the crowd were dispersed by the security personnel by firing tear gas shells and rubber bullets, which injured two women.
The injured women, after receiving first aid at CHC Yairipok, were later rushed to hospitals in Imphal.
Irate over the action of the security personnel, the protesters vandalised a police booth installed at Yairipok Bazar Traffic point and set it on fire.
Meanwhile, denouncing the arrest of Arambai Tenggol Army-in-chief Asem Kanan and 4 other members of the group, the Arambai Units of Kakching district also staged a protest by blocking roads and demanding unconditional release of the arrested AT members.
Members of AT Unit 26 along with the people blocked the roads at Kakching Keithel and Kakching Lamkhai by burning tyres and other objects.
During the protest, a member of the Unit cautioned MLAs of the State to return back to Manipur by June 9 and form a Government by 6 pm of June 10.He stated that if the MLAs failed to form a popular Government within the stipulated time, they would be forbidden from entering Manipur again and also warned of turning their house into ashes.
He also called for the transfer of IPS Gaurav Dogra from Manipur.
