Illegal migrant tag on Tripura CM

Imphal, January 08 2019: Jappu Debbarma, the general secretary of All Tripura Indigenous Students has alleged that the act of the BJP Government in Tripura led by CM Biplap Kumar, which led to more than 20 democratic protesters getting injured during a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, clearly shows that the Chief Minister (Biplap Kumar) himself is a Bangladesi illegal immigrant.

Speaking to media persons at a joint press conference held at the office of Manipur People's Party (MPP) today evening, Jappu Debbarma said that the act of the BJP Government in Tripura shows that it is not concerned about the indigenous people but is content with looking after the illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

CM Biplap Kumar's act of giving order to fire on the democratic protesters thus injuring more than 20 shows that the CM is supporting the illegal migrants from Bangladesh.

If the CM himself was not an illegal migrant, he would not have supported the Bill, the general secretary alleged.

Jappu Debbarma continued that democracy in the country is in danger as democratic protests against the Bill have been not allowed by the Government.

He then demanded CM Biplap Kumar Deb to resign from his post and to terminate SP Ajit Pratap Singh as well.

Sodhakar Kalai, assistant general secretary, Youth Trade People Front of Tripura, said that from the time Tripura became a partof India, the State has been facing the problem of illegal Bangladesi immigrants and refugees.

After the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016, the situation has turned from bad to worse, he added.

All Tripura Indigenous Student's Association, in collaboration with Norm East Students Organization and Youth Indigenous People of Tripura, launched democratic protest against the Bill in different parts of Tripura today and during the protest at Madhap Bari Jirani and Kolabaghan, Champak Nagar in West Tripura, more than 20 protesters were injured after the police opened fire at them on the orders of SP Ajit Pratap Singh at around 2 pm.

8 of the protesters, identified as Sankar Debbarma, Nitai Debbarma, Sumit Debbarma, Pohor Debbarma, Binoy Debbarma, Sabir Debbarma, Lalit Mohan Debbarma, Rabi Kumar Debbarma and Dinesh Kumar, sustained bullet injuries and are undergoing treatment under serious conditions.

He also claimed that the firing of live bullets continued well after the completion of the bandh imposed against the Bill.

Pointing out that despite protest and outcry from various sections, the Bill was passed by the Union Government today, he explained that the Bill is not only a threat to the indigenous people of the North East region but to the country as a whole.

He then demanded immediate suspension of the SP who gave order to fire on the democratic protesters and also announced to launch intensified protest until and unless the Bill passed in the Lok Sabha is revoked and until the illegal Bangladeshi issue is solved in Tripura.
