Imphal, June 29 2014:
The Thadou Students' Association (TSA), General Headquarters expressed gratitude to all the organisations/associations/unions/clubs, individuals especially SSPP (Paite Students' Association) for extending co-operation in imposing 24-hour bandh yesterday.
The association also sought co-operation from these organisations and individuals in fighting for justice in future as well.
Regarding the accusation levelled by KSO Churachandpur, of mistreating the Editor of Hills' Today's Magazine during the bandh, the association in a statement clarified that the incident happened when a red colour Alto-car bearing MN03A 2172 with word PRESS written on the windshield carrying four persons including a women coming from Imphal towards Moreh was stopped by the bandh supporters and enquired about their journey.
At that time, one person who identified himself as an Editor of Hills Today Magazine approached the bandh supporters to proceed towards Moreh for covering some news at Haolenphai village.
When the bandh supporters demanded to produce the press identity card, he could not produce his identity card, the press statement said.
The bandh supporters told him that only media persons would be allowed to proceed as other passengers were not exempted from the purview of the bandh.
But the 'self styled' Editor insisted to go along with other occupants of the vehicle who were not related with any media house, the press statement added.
During the course of negotiation, a woman who came along with them provoked the bandh supporters using indecent languages and manner, which resulted in the unwanted incident of damaging the car, it added.
The whole incident was witnessed by other media persons who were there to cover the bandh, the press statement said.
So, every right thinking citizens and organisations should condemn such irresponsible person, who claimed himself as a journalist but did not know the ethics of journalism.
In the meantime, it is very unfortunate to learn that a responsible and respected students' body like Kuki Students' Organisation, Churachandpur made such remarks against the bandh enforcers.
The association advised the KSO Churachandpur to study the ground reality before making such statements, it added.
The association also warned the 'self styled' Editor to clarify the reason for twisting the incident with the objective of creating misunderstanding with the media fraternity and tarnishing the good image of the association as well as the media fraternity within July 5 failing of which the association would be compelled to ban the said magazine in the State.
