Workshop on promotion of producers held

NABARD, Manipur Regional Office organised a one-day State level workshop on promotion of producers organisation at Hotel Classic today.
According to a statement, the workshop was attended by the Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Dy Director of AH and Vety, Chairman of Manipur Rural Bank, senior officers from the Lead Bank Office, MStCB and representatives from Indian Grameen Service, DSSS, SMART Society, Youth Volunteer Union and other progressive farmers.
AC Srivastava, GM, NABARD in his keynote address stressed the need and importance of producer organisations.
He said that promotion of POs is one of the thrust areas of Government of India and NABARD due to which two funds were created in NABARD for promotion of POs- PRODUCE Fund (Producer Organization Development &Upliftment Corpus) and PODF (Producers Organisation Development Fund) .

He stated that due to large number of small and marginal farmers, fragmentation of land holding in the State, there is a huge potential for promoting PO/FPOs.
He hoped that the workshop will help in better understanding of the concept and features of Producers Organisation.
He urged the stakeholders like SFAC, Banks, POPIs (Producer Organization Promoting Institutions) and concerned Line Department to make concerted efforts so that POs come up in the State.
N Guite, DGM, NABARD made a presentation on NABARD's Producers Organisation Development Fund (PODF), the salient features of POs, types of PO and NABARD's support and financial assistance available are presented in the workshop.
The participants made a presentation on the initiatives in the field of promotion of Producers Organisation and the functioning of FPOs promoted by them.
During the workshop a brainstorming discussion session with the participants on the concept of producers organisation, the role of bank in financing POs was discussed.
