Imphal, December 26 2024: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday commemorate the centenary of the historic Belgaum Congress Session, 1924 at Congress Bhavan, Imphal.

Former MLAs and members of MPCC offered floral tributes to a photograph of Mahatma Gandhi, father of the Nation.

Speaking on the occasion, former Lok Sabha MP Dr Thokchom Meinya said the event was organised to commemorate the 100 years of 39th Indian National Congress Session held at Belgaum (now Belagavi) on December 26, 2026.He asserted that the Belgaum Congress Session was a momentous event as it was the only Congress session in which Mahatma Gandhiji presided.

"The Belgaum session of 1924, led by Mahatma Gandhi, marked a pivotal moment when he outlined his vision for nonviolence, communal harmony, and swaraj (self-rule), shaping India's future freedom movement", said Dr Thokchom Meinya.

Dr Thokchom Meinya also shared that a 'Jai Bapu-Jai Bhim-Jai Sanvidhan' rally will be held on Friday as part of the centenary commemoration.
