Imphal, June 14 2025: As observed across the globe, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal celebrated World Blood Donor Day 2025 at General OPD Complex, RIMS Hospital, Imphal on Saturday.

World Blood Donor day is celebrated annually on June 14 to recognise the vital contributions of blood donors, said a release.

This year's theme, "Give Blood, Give Hope: Together We Save Lives", was embraced through meaningful activities that promoted the spirit of voluntary donation and public health awareness.

As part of the observance, a Blood Donation Camp and a Felicitation Ceremony were also held at the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Imphal.

The event was organised by the Department of Transfusion Medicine with support from the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), Manipur.

In a remarkable show of leadership and solidarity, Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS; and Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, led by example by donating blood during the camp.

Their voluntary participation inspired many others and underscored the significance of regular blood donation in saving lives.

A total of 75 donors contributed blood during the observance.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar emphasized the importance of regular blood donation and urged all to donate their blood and help save lives.

"Blood donation is safe and life-saving.

We must dispel myths and encourage a culture of voluntary donation among faculty, staff, and students.

By donating blood, we give hope and save lives together", he added.

Regular voluntary donors were felicitated for their consistent contributions, which are crucial for supporting emergency care, surgeries, and chronic illness treatments.

Participants also took a pledge to promote blood donation and uphold values of compassion and unity in healthcare.

The programme was attended by the Dean (Academics), Deputy Director (Admn), Principals of the Dental and Nursing Colleges, Heads of Departments, faculty, nursing officers, staff, and voluntary donors.

Moreover, the Indian Red Cross Society, Bishnupur District Branch in collaboration with Peoples Resource Development Association, Bishnupur District Branch; Green Brigade Foundation Manipur, Toubul; NHM, MACS, and Department of Transfusion Medicines, RIMS, Imphal also celebrated World Blood Donor Day by organising a voluntary blood donation camp at RIMS, Imphal.

The camp was organised under the supervision of IRCS Bishnupur District Branch president Pooja Elangbam, vice president Toijam Opendro and chairman Dr Wahengbam Gulapi.

A total of 13 volunteers donated their blood during the camp which was conducted under the theme, "Give Blood, Give Hope: Together We Save Lives" .

IRCS Bishnupur District Branch secretary Dr Huidrom Romen, life member Dr RK Romil, joint secretaries Huidrom Shyamchand and E Premjit were also present at the event.
