Imphal, June 08 2025:
The Peace & Integrity Committee Kiyamgei (PICK) and All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup have come out strongly against the arrest of Arambai Tenggol members by security forces.
Addressing a press conference today at Khangemba Macha Ibungo Laibung in Kyamgeim, PICK convenor Chingakham Meghachandra criticized the administration for lacking transparency in the arrest of Ashem Kanan, fighting commander of Arambai Tenggol.
"We cannot accept the claims that Kanan's arrest stems from a CBI-led investigation", said Meghachandra while urging the Government and relevant authorities to uphold transparency in such sensitive matters and reveal the charges against Kanan to the public.
Highlighting the crucial role played by Arambai Tenggol in defending the Meitei community from Kuki aggression, he condemned the arrest of Kanan and four other members, asserting that Arambai Tenggol is not a militant group and its members should not face arrest for taking up arms to defending innocent and helpless villagers.
He also pointed out that heeding to the call of the Governor, Arambai Tenggol had already surrendered their weapons to the Government.
"The Governor should acknowledge the collective voice of the people against the arrest of Arambai Tenggol members", said Meghachandra while urging the Governor to take necessary steps to ensure the safe, unconditional and immediate release of all the Arambai Tenggol members.
He also condemned the Security Forces' excessive action against the people protesting the arrest of Arambai Tenggol members at Kwakeithel & other areas last night, which led to multiple injuries including a reporter/journalist covering the incident.
He demanded the authorities concerned to take appropriate actions against the wayward and high-headed security personnel involved in the brutal crackdown.
Questioning the ban imposed on internet service by the Government, he said that the frequent ban on internet service will not bring any solution but only hamper the academic future of the students who are preparing for various examinations.
All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup president Moirangthem Sobita expressed disappointment over the silence of the MLAs over the arrest of Arambai Tenggol members by the security forces.
Referring to the political stalemate in Manipur concerning the delay in choosing N Biren Singh's successor, she maintained that such a situation will add to the suffering of the people.
Furthermore, Sobita appealed to all the MLAs to stop their political games and do what is best for the people and the State.
