Speaking to the media, AMRTD&MWU general secretary M Anil appealed to all groups concerned to refrain from collecting illegal taxes from drivers by frequently changing their names.
He, meanwhile, said that the particular association which recently adopted a resolution to stop collecting donations from drivers is not connected to AMRTD &MWU or its partner associations.

He continued that the driver's union, founded in 1973 and affiliated with the National Federation of Indian Road Transport Workers, has a longstanding partnership with the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) .
He claimed that AMRTD &MWU is the second most efficient drivers' union in India, after the Andhra Pradesh Drivers' Union.
Saying that AMRTD &MWU provides monthly pensions to retired drivers and offers an insurance scheme for registered drivers, Anil added that they are committed to serving the welfare of drivers from both hill and valley districts of Manipur and will continue its efforts in this direction.
