Jessami comes alive to Tekru-Nge festival

Imphal/Ukhrul, January 19 2023: The Government has taken a decision to construct super speciality health-care facilities/infra-structure in the four hill districts of Senapati, Ukhrul, Tamenglong and Chandel at the earliest so that patients from far-flung villages do not have to travel to Imphal or other cities for treatment, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said today.

N Biren was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the Tekru-Nge celebration at Jessami village, Ukhrul today.

The festival celebrated under the theme "Walking through the diversity and richness of Jessami" will continue till January 21.At the moment, despite the lack of specialist doctors in the hill districts, treatment for diseases requiring specialist doctors are conducted through Tele-ICU in the hill district hospitals, the Chief Minister continued.

"We are also trying to increase the number of super specialist doctors", the Chief Minister said referring to shortage of doctors in the State.

Biren also highlighted the changes witnessed in the State and said this has been made possible with the support and cooperation of the people.

Peace has brought development in the State, the Chief Minister added.

Highlighting the development of a Heritage Park at Makhel, the Chief Minister stressed on the brotherly relation of the communities and spoke on the oneness of the people of the State.

He further urged all against distorting history and said today history has repeated itself and the people have become united again.

Reiterating that the main vision for launching the Go To Hills and Go To Village campaigns was to identify the necessities of the villages in the interior parts of the State, Biren said that following the launch of these missions in the previous term, the Government was able to identify lack of infrastructure including roads, schools, offices and health facilities in the interior parts.

Unfortunately during the last term, the Government didn't get much time to work for the people as the Covid pandemic had spoiled around two years and a half out of the five years, he said.

During that short period in the last term, with the Prime Minister's guidance, who assured budgetary support to the Minority and Other Backward Classes Department, around Rs 1200 crore was invested in projects in the hill districts through the department, the Chief Minister said highlighting inauguration of the Model Residential School, LM Block, Ukhrul district and women's markets in the hill districts.

Similar Model Residential Schools are being constructed at seven places, sadbhavna mandaps, women markets, oxygen plants, transit accommodations, etc are constructed in the hill districts, he said.

Biren also said that the Prime Minister has asked all Chief Ministers to convey his gratitude to the people for their support and cooperation and to express that it was due to the public support that India is where it is today.

He asked the Deputy Commissioner to judiciously utilize the infrastructure inaugurated today so that the public may reap the benefits of the new infrastructure.

The Chief Minister also assured office buildings of Additional SP and Additional Deputy Commissioner at the earliest and to further look into the memorandum submitted by the people including making of SBI branch operational to ease monetary transactions.

The Chief Minister asked the villagers to submit a report with proper geo-tagging and mapping through the DC for the development of a wildlife sanctuary at a nearby forest area which is home to different faunas including Nongin bird.

He also appreciated Jessami villagers for preserving and protecting Nongin (State bird).

He said that Nongin festival would be incorporated as a part of the Manipur Sangai Festival from the next edition.

Biren said that a war museum and four additional rooms of Jessami Higher Secondary School would be constructed at the earliest.

The inaugural function was also attended by Ministers Transport Minister Khashim Vashum, Social Welfare Minister H Dingo, MLA Thangjam Arun Kumar, TNL president David K Shimray and TNWL president SA Ramnganing, among others.

As a part of the celebration, the Chief Minister also dedicated the Model Residential School, LM Block, Ukhrul and Cave Tourism Project at Khangkhui Cave to the public and inaugurated display of cultural and WW II related items.

Transport Minister Khashim Vashum said that the present Government under N Biren has great concern for the border villages.

Many projects including highway construction, transit camp, school upgradation, drinking water to every household, infrastructural development etc were taken up under his leadership with the primary objective of ensuring development in remote areas and border villages, Khashim Vashum said.

Earlier, the villagers dressed in colourful traditional attire escorted the Chief Minister and his team to the local ground.

War dance, display of pounding rice by Jessami womenfolk and traditional games were the main attractions of the day.
