Jiri, September 06:
Giving a blow to the aspiration of youngsters in the field of games and sports, the office of the District Youth Affairs and Sports is lying in shambles in the sub-divisional town of Jiribam, Imphal East district.
Remaining defunct for the last many years, the sports office which is located at Chandrapur has been forgotten by the general public.
The office is being looked after by two Grade-IV employees, a peon and a chowkidar, who open the doors of the office once in a month.
Eight employees have been assigned duties but none of them are attending to their duties except the two Grade-IV employees who too seldomly do so.
The chowkidar of the office stated that he is satisfied in the sense that payment of salary is very regular and so there is not much to complain about from his side as long as he is getting his pay regularly.
It is learnt that the since his appointment , the Superintendent who is in charge of District Sports Officer has not been seen in his office till date.
But the two Grade-IV employees are optimistic that the new Superintendent will revive the defunct office as he is an enthusiast of sports unlike his predecessor during whose stint withering of the office started.
The peon confided that negligence of the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports can be noticed from the fact that no sports materials worth its name have been ever received by the office for the last one decade.
The two hapless Grade-IV employees also stated that there is nothing to hide nor make an excuse as the dilapidated office building is there for all to see.
In such a situation, young sportspersons have been toiling hard at their own expense to achieve their aspiration without any aid or support from the authority concerned in Jiribam.
Mention may be made that the lone All Jiribam Sports Association has been making utmost efforts to groom the young sportsperson of the sub-division to some extend.
