Poonia appeals to people of hills to join ADC polls

Senapati, April 10 2010: State Chief Secretary, DS Poonia today called upon the people of the hill districts of Manipur to cooperate with and join the forthcoming Autonomous (Hills) District Council election and enjoy its benefits.

The Chief Secretary was speaking as the chief guest at the annual sports meet 2010 of the Samaritan Public School, Senapati today.

DC, Senapati disrict, Nidhi Kesarwani and president of All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM), Thomas Taishya were the president and guest of honour respectively at the function .

Speaking at the function, Chief Secretary, DS Poonia encouraged the students to work hard.

He also gave assurance to the school managing board that he would extend help in development of the school.

He said that the Autonomous (Hills) District Council election has not been held for the past 20 years.

He appealed to all people of Senapati district in particular and people of the hill districts in general to give full co-operation with the government and enjoy every benifit from it.

Many dignitaries, social workers, village elders, parents and gaurdians, and students from the neighbouring schools attended the programme.

Cultural programmes including dances and songs were presented by groups of students and cultural troupes.
