Lamka, July 09 2010:
The first sitting of the newly formed Autonomous District Council Churachandpur, after a gap of more than twenty years, was convened today to exclusively elect the Chairman for the twenty-six member council.
A congress nominee, Langkhanpau Guite from Tuivai DCC was declared elected unopposed moments after the Presiding Officer, Grace Zamnu, commence the session with readings from the Holy Scripture at the ADCC's Conference Hall here.
The Chairman's post was already certain as the nineteen-elected members of the Congress party had earlier unanimously agreed to project Langkhanpau for the seat with the state party leaders during a recent summit at Imphal.
Addressing the council after the Presiding Officer, also the lone women member handed him over the seat, a euphoric Langkhanpau made his first address in Manipuri in a symbolic reverence to the official language, despite struggling to articulate some of the dialect's intricate words.

MPCC(I) Vice President Chantonlien Amo, Deputy Commissioner of the district Jacintha Lazarus besides relatives of the newly elected members attended the sitting that begins at 10 AM.
A black colored luxury car, with a red beacon visibly fixed on the top and a copper plate inscribing the designation Chiarman, ADC Churachandpur at the front was also handed over to the Chairman for his officials use before the presumably fresh swanky official vehicle reaches him.
