Conclave on 'Future of Journalism' begins

Imphal, July 27 2023: A two-day final conclave on "Future of Journalism: How Immersive Technology and Artificial Intelligence can shape the News and Impact Audience Opinion? " got underway on Thursday at American Centre, Kolkata.

The conclave organised US Consulate General Kolkata in Issociation with Meridian International after conducting series of virtual sessions is being participated by journalists from different states including Manipur's Longjam Arishrona of The People's Chronicle and Impact TV associate editor Joyshree Usham.

Addressing the participants, US Embassy India's minister councillor for Public Affairs Gloria Berbena said that immersive technology and artificial intelligence (AI) will aid quality news tp reach the public, shape the future of journalism and benefit story tellers and media professionals.

Moreover, with the help of AI/AR (augmented reality) and virtual reality (VR), journalists can counter misinformation and disinformation in this age of 5G network, the minister councillor said.

As a part of the conclave, computer scientist Sarang Nerkar spoke on the topic "Artificial Intelligence and its uses in Media and Journalism" during the first session while Defence and Cyber security analyst Subi Bhattacharjee, who is also columnist and XR director producer, and storyteller Parul Wadhwa spoke on the topics - "Future of digital media", "Applications for emerging technologies", "Innoyations in immersive technology", "Howimmersive technology and artificial intelligence can shape the news and impact audience opinion" and "Data privacy" .

The evening session had Ministry of Home Affairs' former joint secretary Pradeep Kumar deliberating on ' AI ethics, policy and future horizons", "Ethical frameworks for AI", "Policy landscape" and "Future trajectories and societal impact" while Bloomberg Media product and AI strategy Max Hao Lu spoke on the topic "Immersive Media" .

Demonstrations on 360 degree camera, DIY live streaming headset, DIY VR headset and facial recognition were also presented for the journalist participants.
