Ruling MLAs to meet PM, HM on Manipur crisis

With the opposition ready to move the No Confidence motion against the NDA government in a bid to draw a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the present Manipur crisis, ruling ministers and MLAs of the N Biren-government would be heading to the national capital to apprise about the current situation in the state and its root causes to the Prime Minister and Union home minister.
The ruling MLAs and minister held a meeting with chief minister N Biren at the CM's secretariat here on Monday at 6 pm.
The meeting reportedly discussed the current situation and the upcoming debate on the issue in the parliament.
The meeting mainly centred on presenting the facts and ground situation in the state as well as steps taken up by the government and public sentiment, which they would be apprising to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union home minister Amit Shah including some other key leaders of the NDA government.
Source said that the ruling MLAs and ministers would be leaving for the national capital starting Tuesday and camp in Delhi to meet the central government leaders.
However, chief minister N Biren will not be part of the delegation as he will stay back to oversee the situation in the state, the source added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will face his second no-confidence motion in Parliament on Tues day, the first in his second term as the PM.
People will also keep an eye on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who is set to participate in the no-confidence motion debate tomorrow.
Rahul Gandhi is set to deliver a speech on the upcoming no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Gandhi's membership as an MP of the lower house was reinstated on Monday in the wake of the Supreme Court staying his conviction in the 2019 'Modi surname' defamation case.
The Congress leader visited violence-hit Manipur in June and shared glimpses from his two-day visit in July.
He travelled from the state capital Imphal to Churachandpur district and met victims of the ethnic violence that broke out on May 3 .
The no-confidence motion moved by Congress was admitted in the Lok Sabha on July 26 by Gaurav Gogoi, as the opposition wanted the Prime Minister to address the Manipur issue in Parliament.
The Lok Sabha business advisory committee has allocated three days for a discussion on the no-confidence motion.
PM Modi will reply to the motion on Thursday (August 10) .
Opposition bloc INDIA that supported this motion as the Congress moved it, claim the purpose of this exercise isn't in the numbers, but to compel PM Modi to speak on the Manipur issue in Parliament.
