Remand extended for YoM member

Imphal, February 09 2024:
The police custody remand of Youth of Manipur (YoM) member Laishram Bidyananda (30) s/o late Laishram Sanayaima Singh of Kakwa Asem Leikai has been extended till February 12 .
Laishram Bidyananda was arrested by police on February 2 in connection with a viral voice message.
The viral message reportedly instigated and provoked the public to rise up for large scale violence against the Government of India and the State Government.
Besides, it threatened all Government offices, employees as well as the CM of Manipur and MLAs (both ruling and Opposition) .
Bidyananda was produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West on February 5 through video conferencing and the Court remanded him in police custody for three days.
As the remand for police custody expired today, he was produced before the Court of Special Judge (NIA), Imphal West today through video conferencing.
Whereas the IO prayed for extending the policy custody remand of the accused till February 14, the defence counsel prayed for considering the bail application filed by the accused.
The Court, after hearing both the Special PP and the defence counsel and on perusal of the materials on record, remanded the accused in police custody till February 12 .
