'Grow More Food' campaign gains momentum

Thoubal, November 22 2023: With an aim to extend best possible support to the farmers amid the prevailing unrest in the State, the 'Grow More Food' campaign initiated by Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) is being held in various places.

As a part of the ongoing campaign, a team of the foundation led by its president Kh Gopen Luwang distributed winter crop seeds to farmers of Heirok Part - II Thokchom Leikai and conducted a farmers' awareness programme.

Speaking at the occasion, Kh Gopen Luwang said that the farmers are going through a rough phase since they are unable to harvest paddy in many fields located in the foothills due to the current conflict situation.

Above this, many paddy fields have been flooded hindering the harvesting process adding more woes to the already suffering farmers, he added.

He went on to maintain that the armed narco-terrorists are carrying out relentless attacks to hamper the agricultural process with an aim to cause economic and food crisis.

In view of the above, 'Grow More Food' campaign has been initiated by Irabot Foundation Manipur in collaboration with farmers at grass root level, local clubs and community leaders to strive for food sufficiency and work towards enhancing the economy by focusing on agriculture and allied activities, he added.

The IFM president also spoke about the benefits of farmers' welfare schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) and Submission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM) and so on.

Regarding the 'Grow More Food' campaign, IFM organising secretary Namoijam Yaima said that the winter crop seed distribution drive has been held at 14 different places of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Kakching districts.
