As the 3rd G Khelchandra Memorial Men's Open Hockey Tournament, 2009 organised by the Imphal East District Hockey Association (IEDHA) has concluded today at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium, Imphal, the Manipur Police Sports Club (MPSC) clinched the winner's trophy after winning the final match played today.
The final match was played between MPSC and Hockey Union (HU), Lairikyengbam Leikai.
MPSC defeated HU 4-2 in the final match and won the trophy.
It may be recalled that MPSC entered the final after defeating UYAC 5-2 in the first semi final match while HU entered the final after defeating goalless COSMO with eight goals in the second semi final match played on November 24 last.
The final match played today was a very interesting match between the two teams each of them trying to dominate over one another to win the trophy.
Both teams displayed a very competitive match right from the beginning.
However lack of better coordination among the players of HU resulted to their defeat in the final match played today.
Although they lost the match, HU took the first lead in the 7th minute of the match with a goal of N Jilele.
HU's lead was further extended to two goals in the 10th minute of the match when its player Kh Renal scored one goal against MPSC.
On the other hand with two goals ahead of them, MPSC players tried hard to equalise the score and strike their first equaliser goal against HU in the 15th minute of the match which was scored by P Priyokumar from a penalty stroke.
P Adeva scored the second equaliser goal in the 23rd minute of the match.
S Tarun scored two goals against HU in the 31st and 53rd minutes of the match.
Meawhile, HU players tried their be st to equalise the score but could not make it till the end of the match.
The match concluded with MPSC winning the trophy while HU was adjusted the second place.
Winner team MPSC was awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000 along with the trophy while runners up team HU was awarded a cash prize of Rs 5,000 along with the trophy.
P Adeva of MPSC was adjusted the top scorer's title.
He scored 13 goals in the tournament.
YCCIC, Kontha Ahallup won the title of Best Discipline team and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 2,000.Th Birjit of MPSC was adjusted the title of Best Player while M Rinaz of MPSC won the Best Goalkeeper's title.
