City Police are making necessary processes to take statements of Editor of Tehelka weekly magazine Tarun J Tejpal in connection with the Khwairamband incident of July 23 .
This was mentioned in the progress report submitted by City Police at Gauhati High Court about its investigation into the July 23 incident.
The progress report submitted to the High Court on November 20 categorically stated that strong people's movement erupted after Tehelka published photographs of the incident.
In line with the appeal of Tarun J Tejpal's counsel Saurabh Ajay Gupta, City Police would taking statements of the Tehelka Editor at Delhi.
City Police are also making due process to obtain original photographs of the Khwairamband incident, its negatives, soft copies and relevant documents from Tehelka office, the progress report mentioned.
In connection with the incident, City Police have taken statements from 23 civilians and 11 police commandos.
It may be mentioned that efforts were on to take statements from some friends of late Sanjit and some media persons who covered the incident.
The report said that two small arms were recovered on the day.
While one was recovered from the stairs to Maimu Pharmacy, the other was recovered from the possession of Sanjit.
City Police registered an FIR in connection with the Khwairamband BT Road incident following a writ petition filed by Sanjit's mother Taratombi at Gauhati High Curt.
The High Court further asked City Police to present progress report of the FIR.
In response, City Police opted to file a counter affidavit.
Accordingly, City Police presented the progress report in the form of a counter affidavit on November 20 .
A Division Bench of Gauhati High Court comprising of Justice K Meruno and Justice AC Upadhyay heard the case today.
After hearing the case, the Division Bench directed City Police to examine the Tehelka Editor at Delhi without delay.
It further instructed to complete the process of examining the Editor within three weeks and submit the report under seal to the Court.
The Court further informed that respondent no 1 (State of Manipur) and respondent no 4 (OC of City Police) may file counter affidavits in the meantime.
