New Delhi, November 26 2009:
Efforts are on to organise an exbition polo match during the 2010 Commonwealth Games to be held here next year in order to popularise the 'sport of kings'.
Former polo player Manjeet Bhullar will organise the event which will feature teams from India, England and other Commonwealth nations.
''I want to take this royal sport to a different and a higher level and ensure It gets its due recognition,'' Bhullar said.
''The very best of Indian Polo players are participating in this tournament and am sure this will add to a lot of excitement to the very purpose of the sport and becomes a 'peoples sport','' he added.
Speaking on his future plans for the sport, Bhullar said, ''We will be organising 'Commonwealth of Polo' starting February 2010 wherein, the history of sport i.e.origins from Manipur to formalising by the British officers in India, created the concept and the platform.'' ''This is being showcased on November 29, 2009 and will be witnessed by The British High Commissioner who guest of honour at this event,'' he added.
Drawing parallels with another premium sport like golf, Bhullar stated, ''Polo is an ideal platform for the corporate world to reach their target profiles.
By the virtue of polo being a lifestyle sport, a typical wine n cheese spectator sport unlike golf, it does attract the decision makers of corporate world and set an ideal stage for premium networking and this creates a perfect platform to high life premium products'.
