Journalists' Sports Meet begins

The 3rd Journalists' Sports Meet 2013 organised by All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) kicked off today at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, Imphal.
A Gym centre was also inaugurated exclusively for the journalists by Parliamentary Secretary, YAS, M Prithviraj.
Prior to the inaugural function, a team of journalists led by AMWJU President, Ahongsangbam Memory brought holy fire from Kangla to Manipur Press Club at around 9 am today.
Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary, M Prithviraj who graced the function as Chief Guest said that journalists under the aegis of AMWJU have been rendering valuabl services to the state besides news reporting.
The recent tour to Andaman and Nicobar Island and Tripura and reporting about the developmental projects and social issues of the places.
The courage and sacrifice of the journalists should be respected by all.
As for the government, it will do whatever it is necessary for the welfare of the journalist, he said.
Most of the people, especially the younger generations of the state do not have the sense of responsibility in making a good society.
In suh situation, active sports activities could help them in focusing in social works, he said and added that it is a good thing for AMWJU to organise such sports meet for the journalists who do their duties despite harsh weathers and difficult situation.
While reminding that Manpur is still taken as the Powerhouse of Sports in India, he also urged he people of the state to involve themselves in such sporting activities to lead a happy and healthy life.
