Liyai Kongpao Liyai Kalapahar secured its first win of the tournament after two matches when it played with Motbung Veteran today in the ongoing 6 th Sadar Hills District Veteran Sports Meet at M Thomas Ground Kangpokpi.
Liyai Kongpao Liyai Kalapahar after one lost and a draw earned four points after defeating Motbung Veteran 2-0 in the first match today to decide their entry into knockout round with K Moulpi (Thangkan) Veteran.
K Zimik's 20th and 30th minute strike gave Liyai Kongpao Liyai Kalapahar another chance to make through to the knockout round.
In the second match, debutant Vengthah Veteran Kangpokpi secured their berth in the knockout round when they brilliantly edged out IB Area Veteran 2-1.Haosei (31') and Seitinmang (51') scored for Vengthah Veteran while Ranjit pulled back a goal for IB Area Veteran in the stoppage time.
K Moulpi (Thangkan) defeated Kanggui Veteran 3-2 in a thrilling third match to decide their fate in making entry into the knockout round when it meets Liyai Kongpao Liyai Kalapahar.
Mangpu of K Moulpi (Thangkan) broke the silence when he converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute while his teammate Lalminthang added another after one minute taking the advantages of the uncoordinated defence of Kanggui Veteran.
However, Kanggui Veteran had a quick comeback and found its first goal through Paaji in the 51st minute when he converted a penalty after he was dangerously brought down by K Moulpi defender and he added another quick equalizing goal in the 53rd minute but K Moulpi striker Mangpu struck home in the stoppage extra time to win the game 3-2 .
Tomorrow, J Songtun Area Veteran will play Sadar Hills Gorkha Veteran in the first match at 12.30 pm while FC Tahchapa, Leimakhong will play Twilongkun Area Veteran in the second match at 2 pm.
Meanwhile, J Songtun Area Veteran, Vengthah Veteran Kangpokpi, KSC Veteran, Tujanglhang Veteran and Kanggui Veteran had already book berth in the knockout round which will begin from March 7 at the same venue.
