State A champion Yambem Dhanabir clinched the 17th Kh Anou Singh Memorial State Level Chess Tournament 2007 title with a crucial victory against former winner Apollosana at Kwakeithel today.
Dhanabir pipped RK Bhogen to the title with a better progress score (PS) even though both finished the competition organised by Kwakeithel Chess Club on six points each.
Compared to Dhanabir�s 25.5 PS Bhogen�s culled 24.The runner-up defeated another former champion Premjit.
While Dhanabir walked home richer by Rs 4000 Bhogen had to be content with Rs 2,500.With a points tally of 5.5 and 21.5 PS Moirangthem Shanta bagged the third position half a point better than RK Apollosana (PS 23) as Khumukcham Sanjoy finished his campaign in the fifth place on five points and 21.5 PS.
The Most Promising Player of the Tournament went to E Anand (4 pts) while nirupama Pangeijam (4 pts) and Ng Nonganbi Chanu (3 pts) were conferred with the Galaxy Awards for Girls Participants.
The prize district function is informed to have been held with MLAs L Jayanta and RK Anand as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively and presided by the host Club�s president S Rashi Singh.
