CADA team reaches Bpr dist

After covering different parts of Thoubal and Churachandpur district, Committee on Anti-Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) organised public meetings at three different places of Bishnupur district today in continuation of its week-long campaign ahead of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, 2007 which is to be observed world-wide on June 26.General secretary of MAPI Council L Bimol, human rights activist Advocate Y Devadutta, lecturer of Kakching Higher Secondary School Th Rajen, secretary general of NIPCO Sunil Karam, president of Leimakol MC Rita and assistant editor of Poknapham daily Bijoy Kakchingtabam were among the resource persons who spoke during the public meetings held at the Laibung of Lainingthou Khoriphaba at Nambol, the Community Hall at Bishnupur Bazar and at Kumbi Bazar.
The resource persons emphasised on the need for formulating an effective policy by the Government to help in the ongoing efforts of solving the problem of drug abuse and alcoholism in Manipuri society.
As the Government has failed to do its duty, NGOs have taken up the responsibility of fighting against the menace of drug and alcohol in Manipuri society today, they said.
The resource persons were also unanimous in their opinion that Manipuri society is lagging behind today mainly due to the addiction among the youths and called for finding out the root cause of the problem.
Addressing as chief guest of the meeting held at the Laibung of Lainingthou Khoriphaba, Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya observed that the various problems plaguing the State today is the outcome of the failure of building up a national character.
So in order to solve the problems and restore normalcy, it should be the responsibility of the present generation to build up a national character.
He also appealed to all the social organisations in Manipur to work together for the common causes keeping mind that �unity is the only religion of a society�.
Retired Chief Medical Officer of Bishnupur Dr Kh Madhumangol, vice president of CADA Lourembam Nganbi and Chief Medical Officer of Bishnupur Dr W Gulapi attended the meeting held at the Community Hall of Bishnupur Bazar as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
While the meeting at Kumbi Bazar was attended by Chairperson of Kumbi Nagar Panchayat Wahengbam Yaima, counselling secretary of CADA L Gyaneshore and president of UPF Th Mangi as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
As part of the week long observance of CADA, torch rallies would be taken out in different parts of the State tomorrow night.
