In an effort to help farmers enhance their crop productivity, the Department of Agriculture has initiated actions to distribute 5000 to 10,000 insec- ticide/pesticide sprays to agriculture farmers.
This was stated by the Minister of Agriculture Ph Parijat at the concluding session of a farmers' awareness programme today at Irabot Memorial Hall, Lamlai.
The awareness programme was organised by the Lamlai Area Committee of the Manipur Loumee Lup under the initiative of Agriculture Officer (Chemistry).
The sprays will be made available to farmers at subsidised in the coming month under a central sponsored scheme, said Parijat.
From July, the Agriculture Department will take steps to conserve quality seeds.
The same seed treatment campaign will be undertaken both for kharif and rabi crops.
As a part of the Integrated Pest Management programme, seed fairs and similar fairs for agricultural products will be organised regularly, Parijat said.
During the programme held today, two experts from the Central Agricultural University spoke on soil nutrients of paddy and common diseases infecting paddy plants.
A similar farmers' awareness programme was also organised today at Pillow Club, Mongshangei under the aegis of AO (Chemistry) H Rajendra.
