Imphal, June 24:
Students of the School of GNM under the Medical Directorate have called off their class boycott stir temporarily.
However, they have decided to attend classes and duty wearing black badges from tomorrow.
Speaking to reporters today at their School premises within RIMS complex, treasurer of the Students' Action Committee L Nirupama informed that their class boycott stir launched since May 28 will be suspended temporarily.
She explained that a decision to this effect was adopted following assurance from the State Government to conduct a probe into the admission norms being followed in the School of GNM since 2004-05.However, the students will wear black badges in the intervening period before the faulty admission norms are explained on valid grounds.
Though Principal of the School S Ibemhal has been transferred to JN Hospital as OSD, she was accused of collecting extra-judicial admission fees of Rs 5,800 in first year, Rs 2300 twice in second year and third year from each student belonging to the 2004-05 batch.
These admission fees collected by Ibemhal when she was Principal of the School of GNM was against the established rules of the Indian Nursing Council, she said.
Nirupama further appealed to the authority concerned to set up a State Nursing Council and to do away with the practice of admitting greater number of students than the total capacity of the seats available in the School of GNM.
