1st Chief Minister Martial Arts Meet to be held from January 18

Under the initiative of Chief Minister, the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports is organising the first Chief Minister Martial Arts Meet-2020 from January 18 to 22 at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
The announcement to hold the annual event was made last year by Manipur's Chief Minister N Biren with the view of promoting Manipuri martial arts forms specially "Thang-Ta".
In a pre event presser held today at conference hall of Youth Affairs and Sports, Director of the department Dr Konsam Shyamchandra has appealed all sections of the society to help the event go smooth and without any disturbances.
The meet organised with a huge sum of Rs 150 lakh is expected to witness about 1500 athletes from around 43 clubs/ institutions across the State compete in "Sarit Sarak", "Thang-Chungoi Yannaba", "Thang-Ta Chainaba", " Ta Khousaba", " Leiteng Haiba", " Shajel Kanglon", " Cheibi Yendemnaba", "Thang Chungoi" events.
The top three winners in individual events will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 15,000; Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively while men's and women's team champions will receive Rs 20,000 cash prizes.
The overall team champions will claim Rs 1,00,000 cash prize while overall runners up and second runners up units will get Rs 70,000 and Rs 50,000 each.
The fooding and lodging expenses and travel allowances of the participating officials and athletes will be born by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Director highlighted.
The department also aims to uphold and preserve other indigenous games and sports of the State, he said will adding that a 17 member technical conduct game committee is being set up to successfully organise the 5 day event.
