PNTM conference calls for preserving environment

The Poumai Naga Students' Union conference on the theme "Envisioning Future" continued today with an environment session graced by Somorjit Salam, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati, D John Sha, MFS, DFO, Senapati Forest Division, Solomon Arow, president, Naga People's Organization and others.
At the event, the NPO president called on the students of the tribe to live for better future and contribute what they can to bring unity, peace and progress in the land.
Speaking, as the resource person, on the topic "Responsibility towards forest & environment for a better living," John Sha, MFS stated that environmental issue is big and hot issue at present.
With never ending wants of human beings, natural resources are being depleted at an alarming rate, he said.
India with a population of about 132.42 crores is developing fast, but this has an impact on the environment, he said.
Lack of awareness coupled with ignorance, people are felling trees and hunting wild animals.
Many of the plant and animal species are going extinct, he said pointing out that this has serious impact on the environment and all living on earth.
The conference also witnessed an academic session was graced by S Alexander Maikho, ADC Member, Siile Anthony, Jt Registrar, JNU, Dr Yow Peter Raiphea, (IP & TAFS), Asst Chief Accounts Officer, Ministry of Communication, GOI, Prof Moses Mark Naga, Dept of Library & Info Science, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong and Joseph Adani, president, ANSAM.
Siile Anthony spoke on "Challenges of today's education and way forward." Dr Yow Peter Raipheaspoke on "Purpose with a strong desire" while Prof Moses Mark Naga dwelt on the topic "Be the change".
Alexander Maikho ADC Member called on student body of the tribe to organise different competitive events for school children to groom them for their careers.
He also urged the apex student body to look into the working of the schools to ensure best education to the students.
Debate on the topic, "The influence of western culture is an infringement of our traditional values and culture," extempore speech and Poumai's got talent competitions were organised.
