Imphal, January 14 2020:
The Thadou Students' Association, General Headquarters (TSA-GHQ) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister regarding regularization of 2006 hill district contract teachers, today.
The petition recalled the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the State Government and All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) on March 31, 2006 with an aim to cater the educational needs of the hill schools wherein appointment of 1,332 contract teachers were made on 16th May, 2006 exclusively for the hill districts.
They were re-engaged through extension of contract for 5 times till December 2008, said a statement of the TSA today.
Thadou Students' Association recalled that on January 31, 2009, the then CM O Ibobi Singh had assured regularization of the teachers while speaking at the Tribal Culture Festival, TRI Chingmeirong.
In November 2013, the then Chief Minister had chaired a meeting between All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) and Government wherein, the Chief Minister reassured to regularize the teachers subjected to vacancy.
Again in 2017, Chief Minister N Biren Singh had agreed in principle to regularize only 150 teachers due to State's poor financial resources.
Urging the Government to shortlist the about 150 teachers to be regularised following the rules and without any favouritism, Thadou Students' Association (TSA) in the memorandum reminded the Government that it should update the existing Rules and Regulations to ensure fair selection process.
