Noney-II claimed the title of CRPF Friendship Trophy football tournament for Tamenglong district with a slender 1-0 win over Noney-I at Noney Common ground yesterday.
With supporters egging their respective teams the keenly contested match was played at a fast pace despite poor ground conditions.
The champion team was awarded Rs 15,000 besides the championship trophy as the runners-up had to content with the Rs 10,000 prize.
Moreover cash prize of Rs 1000 each was also presented to winner of best goal scorer and best goal keeper titles with Rs 500 each handed over to all the teams that competed in the tournament and Rs 1000 to cultural troupe of Noney that performed during the closing ceremony.
The Noney edition of the tournament was organised under the aegis of 124 Bn CRPF.
The closing ceremony was held with DIGP (CRPF) JS Gill as the chief guest who iterated that the CRPF Friendship football tournament was envisioned with the aim to generate a feeling of national integration and spread the message of peace, harmony, friendship and building better relationship between the local youth and the CRPF.
While expressing hope that such tournament will go a long way in promoting football in Manipur, the chief guest also conveyed gratitude to all concerned, especially the people of Noney and Tupul for extending their support for smooth conduct of the tournament.
The tournament which commenced from March 24 was participated by 12 teams from Noney and Tupul region with leagues matches concluding on March 26.In the semi final matches played on March 27 Noney-II edged past Noney-III 4-3 as Noney-I drubbed Nagaching (I) 4-0. Nungtek Club, Khumji-II, Tupul Juniors, Rangkhong, Noney-IV, Tupul Senior, Awangkhal and Longmai-III were the other teams that participated in the tournament.
