With a colourful cultural programme which showcased dexterity in music, dance and musical instruments enthralled the gathering by visually challeged persons.
The programme titled 'Sound of Darkness' was organised by Students' Welfare Association for the Blind (SWAB) at their hall at Takyelpat under the aegis of North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur and Department of Art and Culture, Manipur.
Different forms of dance, scintillating vocal music and instrumantals were displayed by different visually challenged artistes to a packed audience.
Herbal medicine practitioner and Padmashree awardee Laishram Nabakishore, SWAB president Shonlien Kiloung and Art and Culture Department deputy director (adminstration) W Mera graced the function as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Padmashree Laishram Nabakishore said that visually handicapped people must not discourage themselves with the notion that they are not able to see.
They acquire lots of God gifted talents which can even beat normal people, he added.
Sholien Kiloung urged the public to encourage visually handicapped people so that these people equip themselves as responsible citizens and take part in the progress of the society.
He also exhorted the Government to take up welfare programmes for this section of the society.
W Mera in his presidential address said that the Government has plans to organise similar cultural festivals in the coming years for other groups of handicapped people.
