Imphal, April 20 2012:
A 15-day 'training of the trainers in diving discipline' commenced from today at Khuman Lampak Swimming Pool premises under the supervision of SFI's chief coach (diving) Mayur Vyas.
Inauguration of the programme organised by YAS Department was held with special Secretary (YAS) H Deleep Singh and Jt Dir (YAS) Kh Pramoda Devi as the chief guest and president respectively while Jt Dir (YAS) L Jayantakumar Singh and Manipur Swimming Assn president Dr O Nobo Singh were the guests of honour.
Opining that the lone swimming pool in Manipur may not be upto the international standard for no infrastructure development work had been initiated since its construction for the 1999 National Games, the chief guest said that the facility should still be utilised in a purposeful manner to produce aquatics players of international repute.
He, nevertheless, assured that all possible assistance would be provided to further develop the facility.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Nobo Singh said as diving sport is still at the nascent stage in Manipur the training programme will be helpful in further promoting the sports discipline.
Diving coaches from the YAS and SAI as well as technical members of the State association are taking part at the training programme.
