A symposium on the topic "Manipur�the jewel of India, the land of unique combination of culture and traditions, the State with an abundance of potential and resources�what is impeding development in our great state of India?" was organised by Red Shield Division at Senapati today.
A lively discussion was generated with interesting opinions voiced by all participants that included two participants each from the Naga, Kuki, Meitei, Nepali and Zeliangrong communities.
In his key-note address, GOC Red Shield Division Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen referred to the words of late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who described Manipur as the 'Jewel of India' .
Despite the recent turmoil, democracy had emerged victorious in the State.
People have openly defied coercive pressures and voted in favour of development and progress, the Maj Gen said.
Each participant delivered a passionate speech to convince the gathering about his/her perception on the aspects of development of Manipur as perceived by his/her community.
The panellists included Under Secretary (Home) Ranjan Yumnam, IGP (Intl) KT Vaiphei, social activist Grace Shatsang, Dr E Bijoy Kumar (Professor, Economics Department, MU) and political activist Haokholet Kipgen, conveyed a press release.
