ESU, Wangkhei knocked MPSC out of the 53rd CC Meet football tournament with a 2-1 victory at mapal kangeibung today while TRAU, Tiddim Line advanced into the pre-quarter round of the prestigious competition after edging out Citizens Club, soibam Leikai 5-3 via the tie-breaker in a second match that was held up briefly owing to crowd trouble.
Even though, MPSC had the first shy at the rival goal when Ksh Kanta's drive sailed a little over the crosspiece, KR Minthing drew first blood for the Wangkhei side by punishing the defensive lapse of the police rear-guards in the 16th minute.
K Premkumar made it 2-0 in the 26th minute before MPSC pulled back one through Thanglenmang Haokip's 60th minute header.
Later, in the TRAU versus Citizens match which was played by 10 men each in the second half after O Tomba and L Tiken were given the marching orders, four TRAU players converted their attempts into goal during the penalty shoot-out compared to only two of the Soibam Leikai side succeeding from the spot.
Earlier, M Tomba opened the Citizens' score in the 12th minute and the rivals equalised through Lunminlal Khongsai in the 62nd.The match was disrupted at the fag end of first half after some spectators rushed in to the pitch in protest against the red cards shown to players of either side.
